About

Our Story

If you’re like me, this is one of the first pages you go to when checking out someone else’s site. What’s this marketing company all about? Do they have a purpose and set of values that I can relate to? Do they look like someone I’d like to work with?

I could describe myself in many different ways. I’m a management consultant, a marketing expert, a coach, a strategic planner, an engineer, and an avid learner. For the most part, I’m just a regular guy. My wife might disagree. I can’t tell if she’s just being a good wife by providing moral support or whether she sees more in me than I see in myself.

The Early Years

I grew up in the small town of Lee, MA. My dad had a busy print shop on Main Street. I can remember walking down the street with him. Many of the other business owners would be on the street or in doorways and would make a point to say hi and shoot the breeze with him. It seemed like my dad knew everyone in town and people were always friendly to him. This concept of Main Street and small business owners stuck with me, but more on that later.

After receiving a master’s degree in engineering from Stanford I started my career as an engineer and planner for AT&T Bell Labs. I moved to Boston in my mid 20s to work for a large telecommunications company. In the course of bringing a new product to market I made a transition from planning to product development to marketing. I also got promoted to Director, which made mom and dad proud. Like most parents they valued the security of a good job in a large, stable business.

I had other aspirations.

Wanting more out of life than a secure job I decided to explore another path. Business courses at Harvard had spawned an interest in management consulting, but I also knew that conventional education didn't have all the answers.

How could people with similar IQs and education be so different in terms of achieving success? I had seen first hand that success ultimately started with an individual's drive and their ability to tap into a deeper potential.  I spent several years studying the human potential and gained practical experience working with individuals to develop higher states of ability. I also learned to apply a very effective management system for improving the growth and profitability of a business.

I eventually went to work for a friend who had a small art company. In a few short years I helped her grow the business by over 400%. I then started consulting other clients. Most needed marketing help. While I continued to get pulled into the area of marketing, it was never really something I particular felt proficient at.

How Main Street Marketing Was Born

I’m an engineer by nature – I like the idea of having predictable results from the actions I do. Marketing seemed hit or miss and was always a challenge. As a management consultant I couldn’t ignore marketing so I needed to figure it out.

I wanted to understand the basic truths of marketing and to come up with a system that would give predictable results. And, after several years of study, investigation and trial and error I finally found a system that worked.

Main Street Marketing was created to address the marketing needs of local, small businesses. It’s simple, practical, and affordable.

It starts with a customized strategy tailored to each client’s business. It may use any of the many online marketing tactics that might make sense for a small company while also recognizing the traditional marketing values of building a strong personal relationship with your client, delivering a great service and working together for the greater good of the community. My childhood concept of what Main Street was all about.

Why Do People Hire Me?

... and why do the people who hire me continue to work with me?

My wife will say that I’m a good listener, but it doesn’t matter how good you can listen if a no one is talking. It really comes down to asking the right questions. That comes from having been there, made the same mistakes your self, gained experience and lived through it.

Don’t get me wrong, I still don’t consider myself anything but a regular guy whose had to learn the hard way, who works every day to further educate himself and who was lucky enough to meet and be mentored by others who were smarter and more experienced than I was.

I’m still learning. And, as I grow, so do my clients.
